Long-distance hikes in Hesse

A natural and challenging hike takes us from Zwingenberg along the mountain road through the entire Odenwald forest in the footsteps of the Nibelungs, who, according to legend, also passed through the Odenwald on their way to the Hun empire.

The Hessian Habichtswaldsteig is a premium hiking trail that is about 90 km long and takes hikers from Zierenberg to Lake Edersee in four daily stages.

Fast ausschließlich durch dichten Laubwald, ohne Täler und kaum Ortschaften zu berühren, zieht sich dieser Weg stets in einer Höhe von 400 bis 500 Metern von Schlüchtern im Nordwesten quer durch den Spessart bis nach Großheubach am Main im Südwesten.

The Rhön-Höhen-Weg takes us from Bad Salzungen in the Thüringische Rhön through the culturally and agriculturally varied Bavarian Rhön to Burgsinn in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart.

The European Long-distance Trail E6 is an ambitious project that will one day run continuously from northern Finland to Turkey. On the German section we hike with gradually increasing gradients from north to south.

The Hochrhöner is currently one of four German long-distance hiking trails certified as a premium trail by the German Hiking Institute. This seal of quality promises a particularly natural and varied hiking experience along the entire route. The tour indicated here runs from Bad Kissingen to Bad Salzungen.

The Barbarossaweg runs from Korbach once across Hesse and Thuringia to Tilleda and the Kyffhäuser Monument on the border to Saxony-Anhalt.

The Vier-Länder-Weg from Donnersberg to Wertheim is a varied long-distance hiking trail through the regions of Rheinhessen, Bergstra;e and Odenwald, the four federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hessen, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg as well as the three wine-growing regions of Rheinhessen, Bergstra;e and Franconia. 

On varied paths, the Rheinsteig leads through the narrow valleys of the Rhine. Between Bonn, Koblenz and Wiesbaden there are spectacular views of the culture and landscape of the Rhine valley.

The long-distance hike „Der Hochrhöner“ starts in Bad Kissingen and ends in Bad Salzungen. In the middle of the tour, the trail splits into a western and an öeastern route. The variant described here, also called Route „Lange Rhön”, leads past the black moor, Frankenhain and Zella until both variants meet again near Andenhausen.
