Weser Renaissance and grassland

We start our tour directly at the railway station in Neustadt and follow the street „Am Bahnhof“, which leads us straight ahead üacross a crossroads into Herzog-Erich-Allee. We pass Landestrost Palace (1) - a beautiful Weser Renaissance building that also houses the Peat Museum. Then we cross the Leine and reach a forest edge. Here we stay on the Suttorfer Straß along the river and shortly afterwards turn right and cross under the Bundesstraß. We now pass through the industrial estate, which we leave to the left across the fields. A little later we reach the village of Suttorf, where we first turn right and then left. At the next crossroads we turn right onto the road "In der Hasenheide" and then follow a beautiful avenue to Scharnhorst. Here the cycle path signs direct us to the left and we pass through the Schützenwiese before the clearly visible Simon and Judas Church (2) directs us to the village of Basse. We stay on the through road and change the bank of the Leine for a second time. On our left, the old Mariensee monastery (3) passes us by. It is one of the five Calenberg monasteries that were once administered by the Klosterkammer Hannover, a ladies' monastery. Since 2007, the monastery has been dedicated to reappraising the history of the Lower Saxon monasteries. Behind the monastery we turn right onto a field path that takes us to the hamlet of Wulfelade. Here we keep along the southern edge and continue to the right on a country road, which we leave a little later to the left in the direction of the open-air swimming pool. Passing the hamlet of Evensen, we again approach the loops of the Leine, whose course we follow to the left. A through road leads us through Mandelsloh, which is characterised by the massive tower of its Carolingian church St. Osdag (4). We continue along the Leinde-Heide cycle path and cycle accompanied by beautiful grassland to the village of Brase. We cycle along the country road to Niedernstöcken, where we turn right and cross the river Leine via the Hammersteinbrücke (5). From here we cycle to Grindau before reaching the destination of our tour in Schwarmstedt. The municipality in southern Lower Saxony lies below the Leine estuary, which flows into the Aller here. The town is characterised by Mediterranean facades and half-timbered houses and offers small cafés and nice restaurants.
