Nibelungensteig: From Zwingenberg to Freudenberg am Main
A natural and challenging hike takes us from Zwingenberg along the mountain road through the entire Odenwald forest in the footsteps of the Nibelungs, who, according to legend, also passed through the Odenwald on their way to the Hun empire.
The Odenwälder Nibelungensteig, which has been awarded the „Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland” quality trail, offers us a very special hiking experience. We start in Zwingenberg on the mountain road. We climb the Melibokus (517 m), pass rocky seas, pass remains of Roman architecture and are on the trail of the myth of the Nibelungen: we pass three places where Siegfried is said to have been slain by Hagen. Due to the reference to the famous German national epic, there are feeder paths in important Nibelungen towns – from Worms, for example, no less than three to Zwingenberg. The long-distance hiking trail leads over the hills and through the valleys of the Odenwald and not only follows the trail of the Nibelungenlied, but also crosses natural sights with fantastic views.
